COS Series pumps are double suction horizontal split case centrifugal pump, they are single-stage, double suction, horizontally mounted, applied for general water supply, booster service, municipal waterworks, condenser cooling, water circulation, industrial service, building service, chemical plant, power plants etc.
The split case pump is the right choice for a wide range of applications with medium to high flow rates. The optimized design of the split case pump ensures high efficiency and durability.
The shapes of impeller and pump casings are optimized to achieve the highest possible efficiency for the specific design flow rate and pressure head. Off design characteristics are optimized to give each pump a wide operating range, ensuring that cavitation limits are not exceeded.
The pumps are easy to maintain as the upper half can be removed without dismantling pipe connections and driver components so that the alignment is not disturbed. In addition, our service department offers financially attractive service and maintenance contracts, which guarantee that downtime in pumping installations is kept to a minimum.
Split case water pumps are the workhorses of industrial and municipal applications. They are more expensive than end-suction or vertical inline pumps, and not as flexible or adaptable as vertical turbines. However, what they lack in low-cost flexibility they make up for in durability, efficiency, and dependability.
A split case wate pump, properly installed, designed, and operated, can provide decades of service. Most split case water pumps are axially-split – which means that the flange at which the pump casing separates is in the same plane as the pump axis. Radially split water pumps are also available, and are commonly used in very high-pressure and high-temperature industrial applications (boiler-feed pumps are one common application for radially-split water pumps).
The diagram and images shown on this page are for the more run-of-the-mill axially-split variety that are used extensively in municipal water, industrial, oil & gas, and mining applications.
While split case water pumps are typically mounted horizontally, as shown in these images, it is no unheard of for split-case pumps to be mounted vertically, and a few manufacturers offer specialized bases and casings designed for this arrangement. However, most manufacturers simply adapt a standard horizontal design for vertical mounting – a practice that is not without safety concerns and, as a result, a fair share of detractors.
